Blast from the past:
Outside, storm clouds were gathering, but inside the Neil Simon Theatre on July 18, Haylie Duff was taking her first bows as Amber Von Tussle in the long-running hit musicalHairspray. The young actress’s fans gave her a rousing welcome, and the company added its good wishes at a post-performance party in Duff’s honor at the Palm. Broadway.com came along to capture the excitement.

Aaron Tveit
During Catch Me If You Can’s splashy opening number, I actually gasped. Not at the crazy technicolor costumes and gnarly wigs, but at Aaron Tveit, who apparently… can dance. And in ways that are not embarrassing. A far cry from Gabe’s various abstract, up-in-the-rafters pole dances in Next to Normal, Jerry Mitchell’s choreography summons all of Aaron’s inner razzle dazzle. We like it. We feel like someone’s pulling one over on us—is there a secret body double in that scene?—but we like it.
Did you guys not see Aaron in Hairspray? Anyone who saw him giving 130% to those moves in “You Can’t Stop the Beat” knows that “Live in Living Color” is basically child’s play.
