As first reported exclusively by BroadwayWorld, the animated film ANASTASIA is being brought to the stage.
Currently set for the reading are Angela Lansbury and Aaron Lazar, along with the newly announced Aaron Tveit. Tveit - whose Broadway credits include NEXT TO NORMAL and CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and who will be seen as Enjolras in the highly anticipated LES MISERABLES film this December - will play Dimitri, the con man who brings Anastasia to the Empress (Lansbury) in an attempt to collect a reward.
The musical will feature the five songs from the film along with fifteen new songs written for the stage. Joining the creative team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty will be book writer Terrence McNallyand Music Director Ben Cohn.
The reading is set for late July; stay tuned for more information as it becomes available!
Mod note: I know this news has been out for a few days and is all over Tumblr already, but I was without a computer when it came out and I still wanted to make sure that all of the FYAT followers knew Aaron was taking part in the reading.
It’s also worth noting that this reading will not be available to the public and does not necessarily mean that Aaron will be performing the role of Dimitri if/when the musical makes its way to the stage in front of audiences. Still exciting for Aaron to be a part of the show’s development, though!
This is a dreamcasting I can get behind 100%.
